| Hartley McMaster
feels that it is important to contribute to its local community. |
|
| While the company is relatively small, it has
sponsored local competitions and events in the St. Albans area. In addition, several of
its staff are actively engaged in voluntary services within the community. |
|
| As an example, in 1996, the company both funded and
administered a Multimedia Challenge for schools in the St. Albans area. The aim of the
competition was to encourage understanding of multimedia computer technology by asking
schools to design and implement their own multimedia systems. That year, the St. Albans
Girls School (STAGS) won the competition, with Hartley McMaster presenting them with
computer equipment worth around £2,000. |
|
| Elsewhere in St. Albans, one of the company's
directors has voluntarily taught English to school pupils; on a slightly more global
scale, another member of staff has assembled a set of hot links to assist children
attempting to find information or carry out homework with the aid of the Internet; and
staff have also acted as business advisors to the Young Enterprise Competition. |
